As a club we are following the guidance of British Canoeing which is going to change as time goes on and we as the committee will continually review the advice being given from BC and the Government and will advise our members.

We have considered the options for returning to paddling and have decided to have limited paddling activity.

Club Activities

The club can now run activities with up to 6 members so long as social distancing is maintained. However, after a conversation with landlord these activities cannot be held at the Hand and Dagger. The reasoning for this is the outside space will be required for their customer once the pub is allowed to reopen. The landlord is not going to stop us from collecting kit but wants minimal traffic back and forth. This means we can take kit out of container straight down to the canal side but not to put down on the grassed areas around the container and we must maintain good social distancing.

Boats and equipment

Club boats can be used subject to a new booking system which will not only be for booking the boat out but allocation of a time slot with explicit instructions for collection. This is subject to a rigorous cleaning and hygiene procedure being followed to clean the boat after use. To respect the Landlord's wishes if you want any kit it will be on a longer-term loan than usual.

Club Paddling Activity

Club members can now take part in any club activity (and are covered for third party liability insurance) for any paddling activity within their club that has had due diligence/risk assessment carried out by the relevant and accountable club representative(s).

  • Organised club activity will be delivered in groups of no more than 6 club members and must be promoted on the official club calendar or forum.
  • In this first phase of return to activity, paddlers must restrict their paddlesport activities to environments which are well within their capabilities.

Led activity at clubs

Led activity may now take place and advertised on the club calendar or forum on a 1:5 basis so long as social distancing is maintained. Anyone leading a 1:5 activity should ensure appropriate safety frameworks are in place, that delivery is in safe and familiar environments and that the paddler is self-sufficient and no equipment is shared.

Peer paddling

This can be done and advertised on the club forum it must be in groups of a maximum of 6 people and social distancing must be practiced. paddlers must restrict their paddlesport activities to environments which are well within their capabilities.
