About Us

Ribble Canoe Club is a welcoming and friendly place where everyone feels involved. We have been welcoming both new and experienced paddlers since the 1970's.The club is based near to Preston in a small countryside village known as Treales. The club draws people from across the surrounding areas - Preston, Kirkham, Lytham St Annes, Blackpool, Garstang, Blackburn and even as far as Lancaster. We welcome new and existing paddlers interested in training or pursuing the sport for competitive or recreational purposes.

The club meets throughout the year. On Wednesdays we meet at the Hand and Dagger Inn for a paddle up (or down!) the Lancaster Canal, generally followed by a get together over a friendly pint or pub meal. Most people are on the water by about 7:00 pm, but if you want to make use of our extensive stock of canoes or safety equipment, its best to get there for about 6:30pm. Club members use this get-together to swap news of recent paddles, to plan future days out, or just to have a good gossip with like-minded souls.

On Monday evenings we make use of the large pool at Fulwood Leisure Centre starting at 9:00pm. These nights are planned well in advance and include specific training courses, polo practice sessions, or a more general free session where members are free to 'do their own thing' (within reason!) within a controlled and safe environment. All sessions are supervised by both Leisure Centre staff and qualified Club members.
